Seven Brief Lessons on Physics || Carlo Rovelli
Reading Time: 2min 10sec
Italian physicist Carlo Rovelli's one of the greatest works is "Seven Brief Lessons on Physics". This pocket-size short book is really amazing to take you upon yourself to thanking him back. Till now this book has been translated into 42 languages. In our previous write on Carlo Rovelli, we talked his another masterpiece, "Reality is not what it seems". That book was enough to create the impression and grow the eagerness about the journey of quantum gravity. And, I am about to think to reveal his another wonder, "The Order of Time".
CONTENTS
This book has been sketched by our author into seven brief topics- The Most Beautiful of Theories; The Quanta; The Architecture of the Cosmos; Particles; Grains of Space; Probability, Time and the Heat of Black Holes; and Ourselves.
Chapter One- The Most Beautiful of Theories: This section is started giving some introduction of Albert Einstein. The author has mentioned the way, Einstein became a renowned scientist. Then Rovelli straightly started to point out over Einstein's new theory of gravity for which he took almost ten years to resolve. In later, it was framed as "Theory of Relativity". Then he continued other remarkable theories, invented in our previous century.
Chapter Two- The Quanta: Mr. Rovelli mainly discussed this part involving the topic of quantum mechanics. He also attached the article, written by Einstein on this topic. As well as he has imposed Werner Heisenberg's view on "electrons do not always exist". And next, he welcomed the context of Copenhagen. Honestly, it can be said that these first two passages are on Einstein's activities on space and time.
Chapter Three- The Architecture of the Cosmos: These two parts(Chapter Three and Chapter Four) will be on the 'microcosmic view of the universe' and 'microcosm of the elementary particle'. Firstly, Carlo Rovelli has proposed the structure of heaven including earth, proposed by Aristotle. And, nextly he revealed also the sketch of this universe that Shakespeare and Dante studied at school. Well, just to make you let know, Dante himself drew a structure of the universe that you can find in the book, "Reality is not what it seems". Then the author showed how the structure of the universe has been developed including nebula, black holes, etc.
Chapter Four- Particles: In this part, author tried to show the invention of 'quarks'. Even you will be informed here, how it was 'named' that. And mostly, this part is really interesting for them who love particle physics. As a documentary report, he proposed every discovery and important things related to this topic.
Chapter Five- Grains of Space: This is the story of development of cosmology. It will be better to say this section is mostly on Paradox and discovery of "loop quantum gravity". As well as he tried to give us some idea about the relationship between quantum events and the source of time and proposed the sketch of the initial phase of this universe.
Chapter Six- Probability, Time and the Heat of Black Holes: This is a passage, combination of Quantum, Gravitational, and Thermodynamic. This part I have felt like the most interesting of this book. And, I really do appreciate Rovelli's technics of writing. He started this section by throwing the question, "What is heat?'. Then he went deeper. And it really does work on the reader to keep the concentration.
Chapter Seven- Ourselves: In this part, he told something about mankind, how we perceive the reality, how this natural development keeps going basing on mutation, and on other processes. And he also delivered his word to express how our journey is coming to the end. And he ended this book with a poem, by Lucretius.
