A WALK TO REMEMBER || NICHOLAS SPARKS || REVIEW

Reading Time: 2min 40sec

One of the greatest American novel writers, Nicholas Sparks has put a special sign of brilliance in this novel, A Walk to Remember. It’s a telling story of Landon Carter. He started to ruminate from when he was just seventeen years old, a senior in high school. In the first couple of chapters, we will hardly understand and relate the story with its name. Because these parts are about setting an election and how the narrator took his place about his carrying off.

After that, he became the student president and had to participate in a school dance. It is a special moment which we shall feel also. When no one was available to be his partner, he asked Jamie Sullivan, daughter of the Beaufort church minister Hegbert Sullivan. And this incident gave this story a special acceleration. By nature, Jamie Sullivan is very religious. As we will see she loved to carry always the Bible. She’s also kind-hearted and beautiful. Then they came close about the planning of The Christmas Angel. Meanwhile, they both knew each other and shared their all types of words like a continuous process. At that moment, when Landon asked her about her future planning, Jamie shared a special wish which took breath inside her:
“I want to get married… And when I do, I want my father to walk me down the aisle and I want everyone I know to be there. I want the church bursting with people.”

After some days, they performed the Christmas Angel show where Jamie spread a stunning shake in Landon’s mind. After that, Jamie planned to buy some gifts for orphanages. Then, Landon took his place beside her. They both shared the Christmas evening there. And Jamie carried too a special gift for Landon and handed over. Then, Landon feels a special weakness about her and realized that he’s in love. The next day when Landon met with her, the first time they involved in a kiss. And this scene really makes me happy:
“You’re the first boy I’ve ever kissed.”

After that they were pretty much involved with their conversation about love. On new year’s night they went to dinner and a few weeks later he expressed his love but she said, “...you can’t love me”. After that, he became more curious and when wanted to the reason, she replied, “I’m dying, Landon”. This line changed my mood and I became obsessed. After giving it a pause, I again started to continue. From here, every moment is significant and remarkable. Every moment carries its own essence. We can figure out here every sequence, happened earlier. And the rumination was still going on as well.

These all happened forty years ago, the narrator confirmed. And, the last part which I tried to make
foggy. ‘A walk’ is actually has defined here a step toward our destiny with our reality. And Landon wants to remember that:
“It was, I remember, the most wonderful moment of my life.”

It would be very satisfying for us if it’s the end of this. But Nicholas Sparks has tried to add more twists. It really makes readers more curious again. And I especially loved his finishing style.
“ I smile slightly, looking at the sky, knowing there's one thing I still haven't told you: I now believe, by the way, that miracles can happen.”
